It had been on the cards for a long time - cleared sometime back and is now finally taking shape. Yes, you have guessed it right. Come July and the Millennium City will have its own and fully functional Gurgaon Municipal Corporation.
With clearing of roadblocks and modalities, the Gurgaon Municipal Corporation will start functioning form the beginning of next month. To give shape to the civic body and get it going, the existing commissioner of Gurgaon Division Rajeev Sharma has taken over as the first Municipal Commissioner of Gurgaon Municipal Corporation.
Soon after taking over as the commissioner, Sharma said, "I, along with the team of officers and employees of the newly formed corporation would try to fulfill expectations of Gurgaon residents that they have from the corporation."
Sharma also listed out priorities that the newly formed corporation would be addressing. Listing out the priorities he said, "Providing adequate drinking water to the residents, proper sanitation, repair of roads and streets besides providing respite from stray cattle menace would be our top priorities. We will also be sending a demand for issuing budget to the corporation, as soon as we prepare a detailed outline about requirement of staff, technical officers and office space."
To generate the funds for functioning of the corporation, the body is also looking at the options by with revenue could be increased. "Even before sitting on the chair of Municipal Commissioner, I had explored ways for increasing revenue of the corporation. I have also written a letter to the Collector-cum-Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Gupta for charging two percent stamp duty on the registry of land falling in the villages which have been included into the corporation’s jurisdiction. A stamp duty would be charged effectively from June 4. We will also be exploring other options to increase the revenue. A survey would be got conducted for getting a house tax system in place and then a demand would be raised as per the policy of the state government," informed Sharma.
Sharma also said that a service desk and reception counter would be set up in the corporation’s office to receiving complaints and suggestions from the people. Further he said we would work towards having a complete transparency in the system that would ensure prompt redressal of the complaints received.
With dissolving the Municipal Council and coming up of corporation, tenure of the councillors will also stand terminated. The corporation will now be initiating the process of Wardbandi and then subsequently the task elections will be held to elect new representatives. The fixed deposits with the village Panchayats of the 50 new villages that have been included into the corporation would now be with the corporation. A land bank available in these villages will be prepared soon and due care will be given to the development of the villages.
Sharma also assured the people of Gurgaon about fast pace of development and at the same time urged cooperation from all quarters for smooth functioning of his office.
